When planning your next vacation, don’t overlook the surprising variety of attractions to be found in the Midwestern state of Ohio.
Start your tour of Ohio at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown. The Butler Institute is the first American art museum and built in 1919. Many of Norman Rockwell’s paintings are displayed here.
Northeast of Youngstown on the Lake Erie shore is Cleveland, best known for the lakefront Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum. Kids will enjoy the educational Great Lakes Science Center. Thrills can be found fifty miles west of Cleveland at the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky. This park has held the title of “Best Amusement Park in the World” for thirteen years.
Farther west along the Lake Erie shore is Toledo. Toledo is the site of the Toledo Museum of Art. First built and established in 1902, this institution offers free admission. Their impressive collection includes paintings by French masters and antiquities from Africa and Asia. Families seeking outdoor activities can try Hocking Hills Canopy Tours. Located in the town of Rockbridge, they offer a zip line over the trees of the Hocking River and Hills. It’s a perfect way to explore nature high in the treetops.
Next drive a few hours down interstate 75 to Dayton. The sweetest experience in Dayton is the Esther Price Chocolates factory. Factory tours are available that include a gift shop with chocolates and other candies for sale.
Finish your tour in Ohio’s capital city of Columbus. The city’s landmarks include a scale replica of Christopher Columbus’ flagship Santa Maria and the Franklin Park Conservatory.
