This is the ship, the Lydia, that Johannes Blattenberger sailed on from
Hof Plattenburg, Bavaria arriving in Philadelphia on September 20, 1743.

And here are the "begats", as the Bible calls it.  Christian born 1785 begat 12 children with his wife Mary.  One son called Daniel begat Fredrich, who begat Berton, who begat Jackson, who begat Donald, whom I married!  We begat 3 wonderful grown children of today.  Donald passed away on July 16, 1992.   Our son David is the last of this family tree descendency.  (Although we have 2 daughters, one of which has begat 3 Grandchildren!)  But the ancestor who carried on the Master Weaver from Bavaria's trade was Christian, a brother of Daniel's.  Christian started up the weaving business in Marietta, Pa. at the onset of the Civil War and manufactured wool blankets for the North.  The building where this business was conducted is still standing  today, presently home to a Barbar Shop.  The Blattenberger's first family reunion held in Pa. in 1993, commerating the 250th year of Johannes, the Master Weaver of Bavaria was attended by members from all over the world!

And today, Diane Blattenberger Marshall carries on that tradition of quality weaving in America with her museum quality coverlets that grace some of the finest Colonial displays in many museums around the country!  Each one is meticulously handwoven with materials of the period; cotton warp, wool weft in the Overshot pattern commonly called "Cat Track and Snail Trail".
